Election Information
The Fairfield ISD Board of Trustees consists of seven trustees who serve three-year terms. Annual elections are held on the first Saturday in May. Each trustee represents the entire Fairfield ISD community.
Two (2) trustee positions will appear on the May 2, 2026 ballot.

Place of Election
Fairfield ISD will contract with Freestone County and Navarro County to conduct the May 2, 2026 election. Polling locations will be posted as soon as determined by Freestone County and Navarro County.

January 14, 2026 through 5:00 p.m. on February 13, 2026.

Eligibility
Texas Election Code § 141.001
An individual is eligible to be a candidate for, or elected or appointed to, a Texas school board if the individual:
- is a United States citizen;
- is 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable;
- has not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;
- has not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;
- has resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the following date:
- for an independent candidate, the date of the regular filing deadline for a candidate’s application for a place on the ballot;
- for a write-in candidate, the date of the election at which the candidate’s name is written in; or
- for an appointee to an office, the date the appointment is made;
- is registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected on the date described above; and
- satisfies any other eligibility requirements prescribed by law for the office.

Additional Requirements Under Texas Education Code
To be elected to a school board, an individual must be a qualified voter who is:

18 years of age or older;

a United States citizen;

a Texas resident;
-
a registered voter;
-
not determined by a court to be totally or partially mentally incapacitated; and

not finally convicted of a felony.

A person is ineligible to serve on a school board if the person has been convicted of a felony or an offense under Texas Penal Code section 43.021 regarding solicitation of prostitution.

Pursuant to Section 63.0013, Election Code: An election officer may give voting order priority to individuals with a mobility problem that substantially impairs the person's ability to move around.

A person assisting an individual with a mobility problem may also, at the individual's request, be given voting order priority.

Disabilities and conditions that may qualify you for voting order priority include paralysis, lung disease, the use of portable oxygen, cardiac deficiency, severe limitation in the ability to walk due to arthritic, neurological, or orthopedic condition, wheelchair confinement, arthritis, foot disorder, the inability to walk 200 feet without stopping to rest, or use of a brace, cane, crutch, or other assistive device.

Voters who wish to be given voting order priority, and be accepted for voting before others in line to vote at that polling place, may indicate this to any election officer serving at the polling place. The presiding election judge will determine whether the voter and the voter's assistant, if applicable, will be brought forward to the front of the line.
