Fairfield ISD Celebrates Teachers Earning TIA Designations

Fairfield ISD celebrated teachers earning Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) designations during a special recognition on Thursday, honoring educators for outstanding instruction, student growth, and classroom impact.
A total of $75,580 in TIA funds was awarded to Fairfield ISD educators earning Recognized, Exemplary, and Master designations through the Texas Education Agency program.
Teachers recognized included:
⭐ Gay Lynn Swan — Recognized
⭐ Joel Kuehl — Recognized
⭐ Katherine Wade — Recognized
⭐ Jill Schick — Exemplary
⭐ Nanceen Hoskins — Recognized
⭐ Kimberly Vargas — Recognized
⭐ Shannon Block — Recognized
⭐ Sarah Block — Master
TIA designations recognize some of the top teachers in the state of Texas. Recognized teachers rank among the Top 33% of teachers statewide, Exemplary teachers among the Top 20%, and Master teachers among the Top 5%.
For many educators, the designation represents far more than a title. It reflects years of dedication, relationships built with students, and a commitment to helping every child succeed.
Sarah Block, a 5th grade science and social studies teacher at Fairfield Intermediate School, said earning the Master designation reinforced her passion for teaching.
“It means I have reached a top tier in my profession and reinforces that I am doing what I am meant to be doing,” Block said.
Block said one of her favorite parts of teaching is watching students grow in confidence and understanding through classroom discussions, projects, and collaboration with one another.
Shannon Block, a 5th grade math teacher at Fairfield Intermediate School, said helping struggling students recognize their own potential is what drives her each day.
“What I love most about teaching is the opportunity to support students who may struggle and help them realize their potential,” she said. “This perspective drives me to create a classroom environment where students feel supported, capable, and confident in their abilities.”
Block described earning the TIA designation as both an honor and a meaningful milestone in her career.
“It represents the hard work, dedication, and intentional practices I have put into supporting my students’ growth and success,” she said. “More importantly, it reflects the progress my students have made.”
At Fairfield Junior High, 8th grade math teacher Jill Schick said helping students build confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.
“I love helping students build confidence, especially those who have struggled in math, and developing positive, meaningful relationships with them along the way,” Schick said.
Schick said the designation will also help support her family’s future.
“Earning TIA designation allows me to invest in my kids’ future by helping provide for their college education,” she said.
Veteran Fairfield High School science teacher Katherine Wade said the recognition shines a light on the countless hours educators invest outside the classroom.
“Teachers put in countless hours outside of the classroom,” Wade said. “It feels really nice to finally receive some recognition of the amount of work it takes to help every student reach grade level.”
Algebra I teacher Gay Lynn Swan said student success continues to be her motivation.
“It means a great deal to me because it recognizes my hard work as well as the hard work of my students,” Swan said. “Their success is what drives me.”
Fairfield ISD plans to continue growing its TIA program in the years ahead as more educators become eligible for designation opportunities.
TIA funding is designed to attract, retain, and reward highly effective teachers across Texas public schools. Educators who earn designations can continue receiving funding annually for up to five years while maintaining their designation status.
Fairfield ISD is proud to celebrate these educators and the difference they make in the lives of students every day.
